863 Plan Marine "Surface Shell Manufacturing Technology for 4500m Manned Submersible"

On December 1, 2015, the Office of the 863 Program for Marine Technology organized an acceptance meeting for three topics including the “Study on the manufacturing technology of the 4,500-meter manned submersible Ti80 manned spherical shell†in Wuxi. Experts on the site visited the physical object, reviewed the acceptance materials submitted by the project and related technical documents, heard the topic acceptance report, and after discussion and doubt that the project fully complete the assessment targets specified in the task book, agreed that the subject passed the acceptance.
These three topics are the major projects for the "deep sea submersible technology and equipment" initiated by the 863 Program in the "12th Five-Year Plan" period. They are respectively 725 China National Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. and Baoji Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. (taking on two topics). bear. Since the start of the project, the three task forces have developed manned ball capsules with different materials and different manufacturing processes. The manned cabins developed have been tested for true sphericity, internal diameter, thickness, hydrostatic pressure, nondestructive testing, and residual stress. The main technical indicators have reached the requirements of the mission statement and have passed the 57.5MPa pressure test experiment. At the same time, there are three topics in the material preparation, forming, narrow gap welding of large thickness Ti80 alloy plate; material preparation of large thickness TC4 alloy plate, narrow gap welding, especially hemispherical integral molding, heat treatment of the whole ball; large thickness, long The continuous electron beam welding of size large titanium alloy girth welds has achieved innovative results with independent intellectual property rights.
The successful manufacture of the spherical shell of the 4500m manned submersible indicates that China has mastered the man-made spherical shell manufacturing and testing technology for large-scale submersibles, which has made China's deep-sea submersibles a major step forward in the development of the localization of core technologies.
