37% of Russia's MC-21 new medium-haul trunk passenger plane will be composite materials

Sergei Liapnov, director of the Aerodynamics Department of the Russian Central Institute of Aerodynamics, announced that 37% of the MC-21 new medium-haul passenger airliner developed by Russia will be made of composite materials, and this is currently the Russian production aircraft. The proportion does not exceed 20%.

Liapunov said that Russia currently produces 20% of aircraft composites. The proportion of composite materials on the MC-21 will reach 35-37%.

According to Sergei Chernyshev, director of the Central Air Fluid Dynamics Institute, the use of composite materials on aircraft, especially on the MC-21, will make the weight of the aircraft even better than that of non-composite aircraft. light. In addition, composites will give aircraft efficiency and higher strength. The time has come for Russia to be able to make aircraft with 40% composites.

Chernyshev also pointed out the shortcomings of composite materials. In particular, the brittleness of composites, their sensitivity to climatic conditions, and their need for constant monitoring. Chernyshev stressed that of course there are more advantages. When Boeing Company of the United States created a new passenger aircraft-Boeing 787 "Dream Flight", the proportion of composite materials reached 50%.

It is expected that the medium-range passenger plane MC-21 of Russia will be available in 2015. As a representative of short-haul and medium-haul trunk aircraft, the MC-21 passenger plane can transport 150-200 passengers. Will replace the old-fashioned 154.

The manufacturer of the new machine announced that the MC-21 will be equipped with high-fuel-efficient engines and modern on-board electronics. The comfort of the MC-21 will not only surpass that of domestic aircraft, but it will also be superior to foreign machines of the same type.
