"Spinach" actually doubles the efficiency of solar panels

When I was a child, I watched Popeye. Once he had eaten the spinach, he became very brave. In fact, it is not just Popeye that needs spinach. Scientists from the University of Vanderbilt in the United States recently announced that the extraction of a certain protein from spinach on a photovoltaic panel can increase its output efficiency. In an article published in Advanced Materials, they wrote that the combination of silicon solar cells and photosynthesis protein Photosystem 1 (PS1) will increase the output voltage and current of traditional solar panels.

PS1 is a perfect protein that can convert light energy into other energy, the conversion efficiency is almost 100%, and it is cheap and easy to purify. Of course, this protein is not only present in the presence of spinach, but it is almost always eaten green vegetables, but in other plants, including the invading Fujiko kudzu, the quality is obviously and quickly becomes low after use, and may not be enough.

Silicon researchers have found that the work efficiency of silicon panels incorporating PS1 is significantly higher than that of previous bio-hybrid panels. The next step for the scientists is to enlarge it and see how it works on large panels to power small electrical devices over and over again.
