Wang Qijie, an assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and his research team have developed a revolutionary graphene-based sensor. This new sensor excels in detecting a wide range of light wavelengths, capturing and retaining light-generated electrons for significantly longer periods than traditional sensors. It can capture light up to 1000 times more effectively and dissipate energy 10 times less efficiently than conventional sensors.
One of the most impressive features of this sensor is its ability to produce sharper images with less light, which could greatly improve low-light photography. Additionally, these sensors are expected to be five times cheaper than current CMOS or CCD sensors, making them a game-changer for the industry.
Professor Wang explained, “Our goal was to ensure that this technology can be easily integrated into existing manufacturing processes. This means that the industry can continue using the CMOS process, which is already widely adopted in electronics, and simply replace the traditional materials with our graphene-based sensors.â€
