The accuracy of a batching scale refers to how closely the measured value matches the true value. It is typically evaluated based on the error or precision of the weighing process. Sensitivity, on the other hand, refers to the ratio between the linear or angular displacement of the balance indicator and the corresponding change in the measured weight that causes this movement. A higher sensitivity means the scale can detect smaller changes in weight, making it more responsive.
Stability describes the ability of the scale’s indicating components—such as levers, pendulums, or pointers—to return to their original equilibrium position after being disturbed. The faster and more consistently the scale returns to balance, the better its stability, which directly impacts the speed and reliability of each weighing operation.
Invariance relates to the consistency of measurements over time when the same object is weighed repeatedly. If multiple weighings yield significantly different results, the scale has poor invariance. Therefore, the overall accuracy of the dosing system encompasses both precision and consistency.
Adaptability refers to the scale's ability to handle various types of feed materials and different batching processes. A highly adaptable system can adjust to changing requirements in terms of material type, quantity, and environmental conditions.
To ensure good dosing performance, the dosing device must meet several key requirements: it should be stable, fast, and accurate; it should have a simple and reliable design that is easy to maintain; and it should be versatile enough to accommodate different feed types, ratios, and operational environments.
Common types of feeders used in the feed industry include screw feeders, electromagnetic vibratory feeders, and impeller feeders. Among these, screw feeders are the most widely used due to their simplicity, durability, and ease of maintenance. They consist of a casing, spiral body, drive mechanism, and inlet and outlet ports.
Electromagnetic vibratory feeders are also commonly used in feed production. They are composed of a trough, electromagnetic vibrator, shock absorber, and flange. These feeders are ideal for continuous feeding of non-sticky granular or powdered materials and are often used in conjunction with batching scales.
Impeller feeders feature an impeller and a cylindrical housing. They are particularly suitable for situations where the distance between the silo outlet and the batching scale inlet is short, and space is limited. Their compact design, lightweight, and ease of installation make them a popular choice in such applications. Some models even include a transparent section of tubing for easier visual monitoring of the material flow.
Rotary feeders are another option, especially useful for handling bulk materials in a controlled and consistent manner. They are often employed in systems requiring precise and continuous feeding.
