Qualcomm's "Charging Highway" Charging While Running
In recent years, the hot-selling electric vehicles have hindered their promotion because of their limited battery life. Due to the lack of infrastructure such as charging piles, many people worry that if they can not find charging facilities after they have bought an electric car, they will greatly affect people's daily travel.
Qualcomm Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, and Vedecom, a company that develops sustainable transportation research and development, have brought a solution that allows electric vehicles to be recharged while on the road. .
The two companies recently demonstrated this dynamic wireless electric vehicle charging (DEVC) system. Vedecom built a 100-meter-long test road in Versailles, France, embedded with rows of spacers that can transmit power to the test vehicle via wireless transmission at a power of 20 kilowatts - the receiver under the Renault Kangoo ZE electric vehicle chassis. At the same time, even if the speed exceeds 100 km/h, the car can be charged in any direction.
Next, the two companies will conduct further tests to address issues such as the identification and authorization of vehicles entering the charging track, the coordination of power levels between the track and the vehicle, and the speed and docking of vehicles traveling along the track.
