On July 25th, Japan's NHK TV station reported that a research team from the University of Tokyo, in collaboration with the University of Austria, has created the thinnest circuit board ever developed. This groundbreaking innovation is only one-fifth as thick as a standard plastic wrap and is expected to revolutionize medical devices. The findings will be published in the prestigious UK journal Nature on the same day.

The new circuit board is designed like a flat sheet, weighing just one-third of regular copy paper. Its most impressive feature is its flexibility—it can be bent, stretched up to twice its original length, and still return to its original shape without damage. This makes it ideal for wearable technology and medical applications where comfort and adaptability are crucial.

Because the circuit board is so thin and flexible, it can be placed directly against the human body without causing any discomfort. Researchers believe it could be used in advanced health monitoring systems, such as sensors that track heart rate and body temperature seamlessly. Professor Yoshihide Yoshihiko from the University of Tokyo, one of the lead researchers, mentioned that these sensors would be nearly invisible when worn, making them perfect for everyday use in smart clothing or medical wearables.

This development marks a significant step forward in the field of flexible electronics and could pave the way for more personalized and unobtrusive healthcare solutions in the future.
