FMS, the era of factory automation (2)

As the cutting-edge technology in the development of manufacturing automation technology in the world today, FMS provides a grand blueprint for the future factory and will become the main production mode of the 21st century manufacturing industry. But the road to FMS is not so flat, and many factors constrain its development. For example, lean management, quality control, etc., but many machine tool manufacturers in China have successfully developed a variety of flexible manufacturing systems, Shenyang Machine Tool Group, Dalian Machine Tool Group, Jinan Second Machine Tool Group, Beijing No. 1 Machine Tool Plant, Beijing Electromechanical Institute High-tech companies, Jiangsu Xinrui Machine Tool Group Co., Pushing Ningjiang Machine Tool Co., Ltd., and Shenji Group Kunming Machine Tool Co., Ltd. all have the technology and manufacturing strength to develop and manufacture flexible manufacturing systems for metal processing. Flexible manufacturing systems operate successfully in the automotive, motorcycle, appliance manufacturing and general machinery industries.

In 2008, Shenji Group Kunming Machine Tool Co., Ltd. successfully developed two flexible manufacturing systems of FMS1000 and FMS1600, which were applied to the processing of heavy-duty machine parts for Qizhong CNC equipment manufacturing company. The FMS-80 flexible manufacturing system manufactured by Pushkin River Machine Tool Co., Ltd. passed the acceptance of key technological innovation projects in Sichuan Province. Jiangsu Xinrui Machinery Co., Ltd. exhibited the FMS63 flexible manufacturing system at the China CNC Airport Exhibition (CCMT2008) in April 2008. Dalian Machine Tool Group Co., Ltd. exhibited the FMC-8008 multi-station flexible manufacturing system at the same year. The successful development and practical application of the above flexible system marks a new improvement in the ability and level of automation of the machine tool industry in China.

The size of FMS (Flexible Manufacturing System) can be divided into four categories:

1. Flexible Manufacturing Unit (FMC)

The FMC was introduced and used in production for about 6 to 8 years later than FMS. It consists of 1 or 2 machining centers, industrial robots, CNC machine tools and material handling storage equipment, and has the flexibility to adapt to processing a wide variety of products. FMC can be regarded as a small-scale FMS, which is a product of FMS development towards miniaturization and miniaturization. It is characterized by the realization of single-machine flexibility and automation, and has entered the popular application stage.

2. Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS)

It usually consists of four or more fully automatic CNC machine tools (machining center and turning center, etc.), which are connected by centralized control system and material handling system, which can realize multi-variety, medium and small batch processing and management without stopping the machine. .

3. Flexible Manufacturing Line (FML)

It is a production line between single or small variety large quantities of non-flexible automatic lines and small and medium batches of multi-variety FMS. The processing equipment can be a general-purpose machining center or a CNC machine tool. It can also use a special machine tool or a NC-specific machine tool. The flexibility of the material handling system is lower than that of the FMS, but the productivity is higher. It is represented by a flexible manufacturing system in discrete production and a distributed control system (DCS) in a continuous production process. It is characterized by flexible and automated production lines, and its technology has matured and has entered the practical stage.

4. Flexible Manufacturing Factory (FMF)

FMF connects multiple FMSs with automated warehouses, communicates with computer systems, and uses a complete FMS from ordering, design, processing, assembly, inspection, shipping to delivery. It includes CAD/CAM, and puts the computer integrated manufacturing system (CIMS) into practice, realizes the flexibility and automation of the production system, and realizes the whole process of production management, product processing and material storage and transportation process. FMF is the highest level of automated production, reflecting the world's most advanced automation application technology. It is a combination of automation of manufacturing, product development and management, and is represented by an intelligent manufacturing system (IMS) that controls the flow of information flow. It is characterized by flexibility and automation of the plant.
