Select infrared camera should pay attention to what

When selecting the right lens for an infrared camera system, it's crucial to choose one that allows maximum light transmission. To enhance the camera’s sensitivity to infrared light and improve scene visibility, a lens with a large aperture should be prioritized. When using auto-iris or electric variable lenses, ensure the drive level is set as high as possible to maintain optimal light intake. However, keep in mind that as focal length increases, light intake typically decreases. Therefore, when choosing infrared lights, it's wise to select ones with some extra power margin and pay attention to their infrared output indicators.
The power supply for the infrared lamp should meet its minimum power requirements. If the power is too low, the irradiation distance may not be sufficient, leading to poor night vision performance.
Consider the reflectivity of the environment being captured. Infrared light behaves similarly to visible light in terms of reflection and refraction. If there are no reflective surfaces—like walls, buildings, or signs—near the target area, you’ll need to adjust the setup accordingly to ensure adequate illumination.
To address these challenges, many manufacturers use the “infrared LED + infrared color CCD†technology. While this helps with nighttime monitoring, several issues still arise. First, the quality of infrared LEDs is often subpar, with a lifespan of only 2000–3000 hours. This means the camera may fail within a year. Additionally, each individual LED has limited power, resulting in a shorter effective range for night vision.
Another issue comes from using standard optical lenses. These lenses may not focus the infrared light reflected from objects effectively onto the CCD sensor, significantly reducing the night vision quality.
Some manufacturers cut costs by using a low-resolution DSP chip with only 420 horizontal lines. Although daytime images may look similar to those from a 480-line chip, the infrared image quality at night suffers from increased noise, which affects the sharpness and clarity of the black-and-white images.
Production quality can also be a concern. Poor manufacturing processes may lead to technical issues, such as misalignment between the LED infrared lamp and the lens, causing halos or bright spots in the image. In addition, improper circuit design in the LED driver can result in uneven voltage and current distribution, leading to premature failure of the LED lamps after installation.
Finally, the power supply for the infrared camera must be stable and reliable. Insufficient or unstable power can damage the device. Many users lack experience in selecting proper power supplies, and using low-quality ones can lead to voltage or current fluctuations, which are among the most common problems reported by customers.
