Singapore partners with Volvo to test fully autonomous buses

According to foreign media Techspot reports, most auto manufacturers have begun to provide autonomous driving assistance functions in their vehicles, and continue to improve technology every year. For example, Tesla's autonomous driving technology can now switch lanes for car owners on the highway, automatically stop, and even implement parking line detection.

These advancements in autonomous driving technology usually occur at the consumer level, but it seems that some governments are considering implementing them in public transportation systems.

In fact, as reported by ZDNet, the Singapore government is working with Volvo to test fully autonomous buses. Obviously, the bus in question is completely controlled by artificial intelligence, which uses complex sensors to obtain information about its surroundings and drives the vehicle safely and effectively.

At present, this bus can accommodate 80 passengers and is only tested in a controlled environment, designed to replicate the real traffic situation. However, if all goes well, Singapore may start adding buses to their real public transportation fleet.

In addition to fully autonomous driving, Volvo's buses are also purely electric and zero-emission. According to researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (the project cooperates with Volvo), the energy consumption of these vehicles is 80% lower than their ICE counterparts.
