According to the latest news from the US media autoevolution on June 11, Solvay Chemical Company cooperated with American engineer Matt Holtzberg to develop an all-plastic engine. It is understood that Matt is the second engineer to manufacture plastic engines. The original plastic engine was introduced in 1982, so the engine is called Polimotor2 four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Plastic engines are expected to weigh between 63 and 67 kilograms.
Solvay will replace 10 major engine components, seven of which will be made of high-temperature thermoplastic materials, including oil pumps, pumps, inlet and outlet, fuel rails and camshaft sprockets. The patented material Toron (polyamide-imide) material is also used. This means that plastics have a new direction of development.
