Introduction to polymer cement mortar
Polymer-modified cement mortar is a composite material made by blending cement, fine aggregates, and organic polymers that can be dispersed in water. These polymers can either be homopolymers, formed from a single type of monomer, or copolymers, which are created by combining two or more different monomers. The role of the polymer is to form a continuous film under environmental conditions, effectively coating the cement particles and enhancing the adhesion between the cement matrix and the aggregate. This results in improved mechanical properties, such as increased flexibility, durability, and resistance to cracking. Additionally, the polymer network helps to prevent the formation of microcracks and limits their propagation, leading to a more resilient and long-lasting construction material. This makes polymer cement mortar particularly suitable for applications where high performance and durability are required, such as in flooring, repair work, and waterproofing systems.
