Stainless steel processing involves a range of techniques such as cutting, folding, bending, and welding to create industrial-grade stainless steel products. This process requires the use of various machine tools, instruments, and specialized equipment. The equipment used in stainless steel processing can be categorized into two main types: shearing equipment and surface treatment equipment. Shearing equipment further includes open flat and slitting machines, while thermal cutting equipment encompasses plasma cutting, laser cutting, and waterjet cutting.
Stainless steel surfaces are classified into different grades based on their finish. The original surface (NO.1) is produced after heat rolling, heat treatment, and pickling. It is typically used for cold-rolled materials, industrial tanks, and chemical equipment, with thickness ranging from 2.0mm to 8.0mm. The NO.2D surface is soft and silvery white after cold rolling, heat treatment, and pickling, making it ideal for deep drawing applications like car parts and water pipes.
The NO.2B surface is achieved through finishing rolling, resulting in a moderately bright appearance that is smooth and easy to re-polish. It is widely used in tableware and construction materials. Coarse sand (NO.3) features a rough texture created using a 100–120 grit belt, suitable for interior and exterior decorative elements, electrical products, and kitchen appliances.
Fine sand (NO.4), made with a 150–180 grit belt, has a finer texture than NO.3 and is commonly used in bathrooms, building decorations, and food equipment. The #320 grade, ground with a 320-grit belt, offers a smoother finish and is also used in similar applications. The hairline (HL) finish, created with abrasive belts between 150–320 grit, features continuous grinding lines and is often used in architectural design, elevators, and building panels.
The bright annealed (BA) surface is highly reflective and mirror-like, obtained through cold rolling and smoothing. It is ideal for home appliances, mirrors, and decorative items. In architecture, the surface finish of stainless steel plays a crucial role, as a smooth surface prevents dirt accumulation and reduces the risk of corrosion.
In large halls, stainless steel is frequently used for elevator panels. Although fingerprints can be wiped off, choosing the right surface finish helps maintain an attractive appearance. In industries such as food processing, catering, and brewing, hygiene is essential. Stainless steel is preferred because it is easy to clean and resistant to bacterial growth. Unlike aluminum, which often leaves stains, stainless steel can be cleaned effectively along its grain lines, preserving its appearance and functionality.
Stainless steel is especially valuable in hospitals and other environments where cleanliness is critical. Its durability, ease of maintenance, and resistance to bacteria make it a top choice in many sectors. Whether for daily cleaning or long-term use, stainless steel consistently delivers reliable performance.
