"Plastic" solar cells or promising commercial

The Brazilian company of the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) has announced that they have made breakthroughs in the research of "plastic" solar cells and that the technology to replace solar cells with monocrystalline silicon by organic polymers has entered the commercial development stage.

The so-called "plastic" solar cells are organic polymer films that can produce photoelectric effects, printed on carbon substrates and connected to a battery pack. Compared with conventional monocrystalline silicon solar cells, "plastic" solar cells have the remarkable features of being light and inexpensive, and have less pollution in the production process.

According to the website of “The Americas”, although European and American countries have developed similar technologies, they have low power generation and are only suitable for powering small-sized mobile phones such as mobile phones. CSEM Brazilian company technicians said that their new technology can create a larger area of "plastic" solar panels to meet the needs of ordinary household electricity. If such solar panels are installed in open spaces such as building roofs, the scale of power generation will be considerable. Because of the trade secrets involved, the company declined to disclose the technical details.

CSEM Brazil stated that the cost of "plastic" solar cells is far lower than that of traditional solar cells, and has therefore been put into commercial development. At the same time, it hopes to introduce the participation and investment of private companies. (Reporter Liu Yan)
