Southern Jiangxi built Shenyang's first solar waiting gallery

Yesterday, a reporter from the local news outlet learned that the first solar-powered bus shelter in Shenyang has officially been completed and is now open for public use. Located on Yingpanbei Street in the southern Anhui New District, this innovative structure marks a significant step forward in sustainable urban development.

The solar bus shelter serves as a stop for several key bus routes, including lines 238 and 146. While its design resembles traditional bus shelters, it features eight solar panels installed on the roof, with underground systems storing energy through batteries and smart control equipment. This setup allows the shelter to function independently of the main power grid.

According to the Weinan Environmental Protection Bureau, the main advantage of the solar shelter is its ability to collect solar energy during the day and convert it into electricity for use at night. The system can power LED lights for up to four hours and an LED display for ten hours, offering both energy efficiency and environmental benefits.

In case of emergencies or adverse weather conditions, the stored energy can also be used to support nearby offices and residential buildings, making the shelter more than just a simple transit point—it becomes a vital part of the local energy network.

Before the National Games, the Weinan New District plans to install an additional 10 solar-powered shelters around the Olympic Sports Center and the National Games Village. The exact locations are currently under consideration. This initiative reflects the district’s commitment to green infrastructure and sustainable urban planning.
