Spraying against sweet orange mold and green mold

After the sweet orange fruit reaches maturity, it becomes more vulnerable to infections such as blue mold and green mold. Once a cyan or green powdery mildew appears on the surface of the fruit, the decay process begins rapidly, leading to significant softening and eventual decomposition. Fruits that are infected with *Penicillium* or green mold bacteria during the latent stage tend to deteriorate even faster during transportation and storage, resulting in serious economic losses. Now is the optimal time to apply preventive measures, as the oranges are reaching their peak ripeness. Spraying appropriate pesticides can significantly reduce the risk of mold development. The pesticide manufacturer recommends applying a 70% methyl thiophanate solution diluted at 800 times or a 50% benomyl solution diluted at 1000 times every 10–15 days. Alternatively, a 50% tebuconazole solution at 800 times or an 80% carbendazim solution at 1000 times can also be used. It is important to spray these solutions thoroughly over all parts of the tree, including both the inner and outer canopy, with special attention given to the fruit surfaces. The goal is to ensure that the fruits are fully covered, with droplets starting to run off. It’s also crucial to stop spraying 10–15 days before harvest to avoid any chemical residue on the fruit. This precaution helps maintain the quality and safety of the produce for consumers. By following these guidelines, growers can effectively protect their crops and minimize post-harvest losses due to mold.
