New standards for furniture testing are about to be implemented

Today, environmental protection has become a top priority for everyone. When purchasing furniture from the market, many consumers are concerned about the potential health risks posed by formaldehyde emissions. They often want to have the furniture tested to ensure it's safe and eco-friendly. However, traditional testing methods require sending the furniture to a lab, which can damage or even destroy the item, making it unusable afterward. This has been a major issue for consumers for years. Fortunately, things are about to change. In the near future, furniture testing will no longer result in damaged products. According to recent reports, the National Standard for Limiting Hazardous Substances in Wooden Furniture (Revised) is now in the drafting stage and is expected to be officially released and implemented in May this year. Under the new standard, furniture can be tested using an environmental climate chamber, which allows for comprehensive evaluation of harmful substances without damaging the product. After testing, the furniture remains intact and can still be used as normal. This development is especially important during the summer months when high temperatures and humidity accelerate gas release, leading to increased consumer demand for inspections. The updated standard is expected to bring stricter regulations to the furniture industry. Non-destructive testing methods will replace the previous destructive testing, and the "climate chamber testing method" will take the place of the older "atmospheric testing method." If the furniture fails to meet the new standards, consumers will have a solid basis for returns or complaints. The shift toward non-invasive and more accurate testing methods not only benefits consumers but also promotes greater transparency and accountability within the furniture industry. As awareness of environmental and health issues continues to grow, such improvements are essential for building trust and ensuring safer, greener living spaces. Source: Furniture Network
