First, the toilet that causes acne. According to traditional Chinese feng shui principles, the direction of the toilet should not align with the main entrance of the house. For example, if the front door faces south, sitting on the toilet while facing the same direction is considered inauspicious. This is said to create jealousy or conflict within the household, potentially leading to health issues like skin problems. Although I haven’t personally verified this in real-life cases, it’s still wise to avoid such configurations.
Second, water and fire shouldn’t be in the same area. Many feng shui schools advise against placing the toilet in the southern part of the house. This relates to the eight trigrams, where the south corresponds to fire, and the bathroom is associated with water. Water in a fire zone can create imbalance, similar to how a person's fate might be negatively affected by conflicting energies.
Third, enclosed toilets can harm health. Some bathrooms are completely sealed with no windows, relying only on exhaust fans. According to feng shui, a bathroom should have natural light and good airflow to help remove bad odors and maintain fresh air. If the space is too closed and lacks proper ventilation, it could affect the family’s well-being. Air fresheners may mask smells but don’t improve air quality effectively.
Fourth, certain positions are considered dangerous. Many feng shui texts warn against placing the toilet in the southwest or northeast corners of the house. These areas are associated with the trigrams Kan (water) and Dui (earth), respectively. When water is placed in an earthy location, it can create unfavorable energy patterns, which are believed to bring misfortune or even illness to the household.
Fifth, the toilet’s position affects luck. In addition to the northeast, the southwest is also considered a strong negative energy area. If you need to move the toilet, it’s better to shift it from west to northwest. The south is a favorable direction for light and energy, so placing the toilet there may interfere with positive flow. Western toilets aren’t ideal, but they’re not necessarily harmful unless specific conditions apply, like having a young girl or a newlywed in the home.
Sixth, bathtubs can cause endocrine issues. Some people install raised basins in their bathrooms, with the tub built into the floor. While this design looks elegant, it’s not recommended for bathrooms located in bedrooms. According to feng shui, the bathroom floor should not be higher than the bedroom floor, especially for the bathtub. This is because water flows downward, and if it’s positioned above the bedroom, it may bring moisture and negative energy, increasing the risk of health problems.
Seventh, the bathroom should not be in the center of the house. The center represents earth, and the bathroom is associated with water. Placing water in the center of the earth can create imbalance. Additionally, if the plumbing runs through other rooms, maintenance becomes difficult, and sewage pipes passing through living spaces can be unpleasant. The center of the house is like the heart—it should remain clean and unobstructed.
Eighth, the bathroom should not be at the end of a corridor. If your home has a long hallway, make sure the toilet is placed on the side, not at the end. This is considered a “murder†in feng shui, as it allows negative energy to flow directly into the corridor, harming the health of the family.
