Successful Preparation of Controllable Nanopores on Graphene

Experts of the Russian National Research Technology University (NUST MISIS), together with the international team composed of other national physicists, jointly carried out a series of experiments on rapid ion irradiation of graphene. The results show that controlled diameter nanopores can be prepared on graphene in this way.

Nast MISIS guest professor and deputy physics mathematics doctor Dr. Alkadi Krashenimnikov explained: “Now the graphene research is to study how to control its characteristic changes, while 'controlling' the graphene manufacturing structure can significantly change its One way to change the structure of electrons and conduction properties is to use different elemental ions to irradiate graphene."

In this experiment, scientists used large amounts of high-energy carbon, oxygen, iodine, gold, antimony and tellurium ions to irradiate graphene. The results showed that changing the ion energy can produce small holes with a diameter of 1 to 4 nanometers on graphene.

It is expected that tailoring nanopores on graphene will allow its spectra to be rearranged into semiconductor spectra, which can then be applied to electronic products.
